Celebrating Women Who Inspire Me

Every March 8th, as the world comes together to celebrate International Women’s Day, I take a moment to reflect on the countless women who have shaped my perspective, values, and ambitions.

I often say—half-jokingly, but with absolute sincerity—that I have been a feminist long before it became fashionable. My understanding of gender equality has been profoundly influenced by the words and work of Virginia Woolf, Isabel Allende, Charlotte Brontë, Jane Austen, and Simone de Beauvoir—women who, through literature and philosophy, challenged the status quo and paved the way for future generations.

Beyond the written word, artists and creators like Maria Grazia Chiuri and Annie Leibovitz have reinforced my belief in the power of art to shape narratives, question societal norms, and demand justice for the inequities that have persisted for centuries.

Thank you to all the women who, through art, have helped me forge and strengthen my values and beliefs about the justice that has been owed to women for centuries.

The Most Important Woman in My Life

Among all these remarkable women, the one who has influenced me the most is my mother. Through her, I have witnessed firsthand what it means to be a leader—not just in a professional or political sense but in the way she carries herself, how she advocates for others, and how she consistently chooses to use her power and influence for good. Her work has not only earned her the respect of her peers but has also had a tangible impact on thousands of Paraguayans.

Her dedication reminds me that leadership is not just about titles or accomplishments; it is about service, resilience, and the ability to lift others as you rise.

Paraguayan Women in Leadership

I also want to extend my gratitude to the Paraguayan women who have broken barriers in fields traditionally dominated by men and who have shown me that it is possible to excel at the highest levels of government, non-profits, and the private sector—all while staying true to their values and paving the way for future generations.

Their success reinforces a fundamental truth: we don’t have to choose between personal and professional fulfillment. The road may be harder, and the expectations placed upon us may be unfair, but through perseverance, continuous learning, and unwavering determination, women can and do succeed.

A Call for Equality and Sustainability

As we celebrate this day, I echo the message of the United Nations:

"Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow."

The fight for equality is not just about representation; it is about ensuring that women have the resources, opportunities, and support to thrive in all aspects of life. From boardrooms to political offices, from scientific breakthroughs to creative industries—our voices, our ideas, and our leadership matter.

To every woman reading this: your journey, your struggles, and your victories matter. And to all the women who have inspired me—whether through their words, their actions, or their mere existence—thank you.

Happy International Women’s Day!
